About Me

My name is Samantha Broome and I am a sophomore at the University of South Carolina Lancaster (USCL). I am pursuing my

bachelor's degree in nursing and am excited to say that I was recently accepted into our BSN program. At USCL, I am a Peer Adviser (PAL), apart of the Research Club and Student’s Nursing Association (SNA), I have also decided to run for Student Government Association (SGA) president. Out of all the clubs I am involved in, research club is the most important to me. It is what inspired me to pursue my Graduation with Leadership Distinction in the research pathway.

Research club helped me to find my passion for research and the research process. Through the research process I have learned the importance of documentation. When problems would arise during data entry I had something to turn to, so that I can make an informed decision. Documentation is also important in my future career as a nurse. One nurse is not the only one taking care of a patient but an entire health care team. Proper documentation helps to ensure that a patient is receiving the best care possible, by allowing others to know everything that has been done to the patient.

Pursing nursing has help me find who I am. I believe that God gave me a servant’s and the best way I can use that is through becoming a nurse. Serving others is not something new to me. I have been taking care of others throughout my entire life, starting with my father, who has had many surgeries. My goal is to obtain my Doctorate in Nursing Practice (DNP) and become a professor. I want to help other future nurses find themselves in the pursuit of serving others, like I have.

Through the many organizations that I am involved in, I have learned the importance of teamwork.  It brings many different people together, with different thoughts and opinions, for the pursuit of a common goal. Within my future career as a nurse, I will have to work with many other healthcare providers to provide the best care for my patient. Therefore, nursing is not about one individual but many coming together to better the life of a patient.
